    Why Turkey is seismically active

Turkey straddles the boundary where the Arabian and Anatolian plates meet. The North Anatolian Fault is one of the world's most studied strike-slip faults, comparable to the San Andreas. The 2023 Kahramanmaras sequence reached magnitude 7.8 and 7.5 hours apart, among the deadliest events of the decade.
